We should know and investigate what the real reason behind ADHD. Basically due to a fault in neurotransmitters child cannot pay attention, concentrate on work and decision making and this behavior will results in irritation, frustration, aggression on children.

Most of the medicine companies say that in most cases 70% to 80% psycho stimulant medicine are effective to cure ADHD. It is not a complete truth but a partial. Because these prescribed medicines are not effective in the longer run. After a period of time, traits of ADHD can be seen again. So basically these medicines suppress the disease and cannot be taken as long term alternative.

So the natural remedy can be taken as an alternative to prescribed drugs. Their are many kind of alternatives available. Parents can choose the most suitable for their child.

Namely- Diet management, behavioral Therapy, change in life style, Homeopathy Remedied, Herbal remedies.

These alternatives can take longer time to treat your child but the effect will be permanent and stable. Because these alternatives will not suppress the disease but it really cure the root cause of ADHD. And the other benefits of these alternatives are that, you don't need to take remedies for whole life .Its just one time but for a longer duration.

ADHD Alternative Vitamin Guidelines

Studies have shown that children with ADHD have lower levels of certain vitamins and minerals. After giving alternative vitamins for ADHD children the symptoms of inattention and hyperactivity improved significantly and learning became easier for them.

FDA guidelines for vitamins are the minimum required and are actually very low compared to what is essentially needed if the body is not receiving a diet with an abundant supply of fruits, nuts, vegetables and healthy protein sources, such as peanut or almond butter, dairy, chicken and fish. Many children especially are not eating a well rounded diet and are sadly lacking in many nutrients. Certain vitamins and minerals are needed for growth and mental development of children.

Omega-3 which is found mainly in fish is a major nutrient for brain development and helps concentration in kids with ADHD. Attention span, irritable moods and lack of control are deficiency signs if there is a lack of magnesium in the diet and one study group found that vitamin B6 or pyridoxine, which also helps brain development, was found to be as useful as Ritalin as an ADHD alternative vitamin, as was zinc with its deficiency signs of slow growth and developmental delays.

Natural and safe ADHD alternative vitamins are available to help with attention and concentration. These alternatives include nutrients and compounds from herbs that help with behavior such as hyoscyamus helping over-excitability and impatience, and verta alb, calms nerves. Additional herbs that are helpful are chamomile, kava kava, valerian, gingko biloba, and passionflower.

First try and have your child eat a healthy diet. This can be difficult, but if you experiment, make it fun and slowly introduce (it can take approximately ten to twelve tries) different foods so they may begin to appreciate it. Or, in addition to diet, give alternative vitamins for ADHD; such as a multi mineral and add an Omega-3.

Dietary Treatments For Adhd

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a psychological disorder that affects an estimated 10% of all school age children. Ritalin and Adderall are stimulants commonly prescribed by doctors to treat ADHD symptoms. The side effects of these drugs include decreased appetite, insomnia, increased anxiety, irritability, mild stomach aches or headaches. As a result, many sufferers seek alternative treatments over drug medications for ADHD.

While the link between diet and ADHD is still inconclusive, making dietary changes alone can help ADHD patients improve as much as those who take medications. Dietary treatments for ADHD are based on eight known risk factors for ADHD. They are food allergies, metal and environmental toxins, low-protein/high carbohydrate diets, mineral imbalance, essential fatty acid deficiency, amino acid deficiency, thyroid disorders and B-vitamin deficiency.

Food Allergies

Food additives in over-processed food are often at the root of ADHD problems. Remarkable improvement can often be seen when children with ADHD are placed on diets that eliminate dyes, preservatives and foods that commonly cause allergic reactions. It appears that many ADHD patients exhibit signs of borderline allergic reaction to foods or additives in their diet. Foods that were commonly found to cause reactions include cow's milk, wheat, soy, eggs, chocolate, yeast, orange juice and apple juice. Additionally, many ADHD sufferers may be sensitive to artificial food colorings and flavorings, preservatives and salicylic compounds such as those found in aspirin or berry fruits.

Try removing common allergens from the diet separately and watch for improvement. Keep a diary or journal of foods consumed and the associated moods and behaviors afterward. This can help you identify allergens in your diet that you might not be aware of.

Sugar

Hyperactivity may be blamed on how the body metabolizes glucose. Normally the body responds to sugar intake by releasing insulin or other hormones to prevent the blood sugar from becoming too high or to low. In ADHD patients, the body only produces about half the normal amount of hormones. When blood sugar drops significantly, it causes a decreased in brain activity. ADHD patients may be subconsciously becoming hyperactive to get the body to produce more hormones.

ADHD patients should avoid foods with high sugar content and high carbohydrate. They should be tested for thyroid disorder as it can cause ADHD.

Magnesium and essential fatty acid deficiencies

Most people do not get the recommended daily allowance of magnesium. This deficiency can lead to depression, anxiety, irritability and restlessness. Diets that consist of white sugar, white flour and dairy products can reduce the body's absorption of magnesium. Whole wheat flour and natural sweetener such as molasses are healthier alternatives.

Taking a magnesium supplement along with other common minerals such as zinc and iron can greatly improve the symptoms of hyperactivity in ADHD patients. Avoid soft drinks as they can reduce the body's ability to absorb magnesium.

Supplementing the diet with essential fatty acids can reduce hyperactivity in ADHD patients. Good sources of essential fatty acids (Omega 3) are flax seed oil, cod liver oil, fish oil and evening primrose oil.

Before making dietary changes for an ADHD patient, it is best to seek the advice of a qualified nutritionist first. He can help put together a balanced diet that will take into account all the special needs of the ADHD patient. Discuss the dietary changes with a doctor before stopping any ADHD prescription medication.

ADD and ADHD Alternatives - What Options Are Available?

Why did Health Canada ban Adderall XR ? Because there had been 12 strokes in children and also between 20 and 30 heart attacks and sudden deaths. Why did the WHO, over ten years ago, warn that Ritalin was being overprescribed for ADHD ? Simply because the use of this drug in the long term is unknown and there are serious side effects such as stunted growth, heart problems, blood pressure and depression, just to name a few ! What then are the ADD and ADHD alternatives?

Let us look at the options available. First, unless parents come to grip with how things are run in the home, then there will be little chance of success because the behavioral problems there, if not resolved, will go on into adulthood and ADHD children will grow into ADHD adults and will constantly come up against obstacles in their work and relationships. The ADHD child may be aggressive and violent towards teachers, parents and siblings. How on earth do you deal with that? Many parents do not even bother to seek out alternative methods for ADD and ADHD.

The most important aspect here is that ADHD behavior therapy will work wonders if properly applied. There is no need for expensive counselling but a good behavior therapy course will cover the cost of one or two of those sessions. Looking after diet, exercise, school support are all part of a comprehensive type of treatment which can and does work, provided behavior therapy is at its core. This is one of the essential ADD and ADHD alternatives in my view.

William Pelham is well known in ADD and ADHD circles and his work together with Dr. Gregory Fabiano establishes that behavior therapy together with some medication is the most effective and permanent solution to ADHD. Dr. Fabiano won a White House Award for this work and does a lot of research with ADHD teens especially how they react when driving. Dr. Fabiano's research supports ADHD behavioral therapy as one of the of the few valid ADD and ADHD alternatives.

We now know that the big pharmaceutical companies have launched massive campaigns on the media and even in social networking to assure parents that the drugs they make are perfectly safe. They even have followers on Facebook, some as many as tens of thousands, as they peddle their wares, even there. They have mounted a campaign against homeopathic medicine and have even paid for trials which will be manipulated by them to discredit homeopathy and will rarely mention alternative methods for ADD and ADHD.

The homeopathic remedies for ADHD contain ingredients like Arsen iod which is great for calming children during outbursts and temper tantrums. In addition, hyperactivity is reduced and also impulsivity so no more dashing across the road. Concentration is also improved. The great thing about this type of remedy is that they are non-addictive and there are no known side effects. The long term risks are zero and there have been no cases of heart conditions due to a homeopathic remedy because it quite simply restores the balance in the mind and the body of the patient. It may not get much space in the media but homeopathy is one of the best ADD and ADHD alternatives.
